China’s state television has released a video showcasing a new weapon deployed from a vehicle that disperses several carbon filaments designed to disrupt electricity supply to transformers and substations.
In the footage, the bomb disintegrates and releases about 90 cylindrical carbon submunitions. These carbon cylinders spread over the ground and then lift back into the air to scatter across a designated area, creating a total blackout without causing structural damage.
According to the South China Morning Post, the bomb has an operational range of 290 kilometers and weighs approximately 490 kilograms. Chinese military experts note that in the future, this “bomb” is expected to be adapted for cruise missiles, producing devastating effects in wartime.
Chen Chundi, editor of the magazine “Modern Ships,” emphasized that this weapon is already operational for the People’s Liberation Army of China and can be equipped with a special guidance mechanism that corrects its course based on wind conditions, increasing its precision.
This type of weapon, also known as a “blackout bomb,” aims to completely paralyze the electrical infrastructure of strategic areas in modern warfare without causing direct harm to people or buildings.
