Debt forgiveness, €30 million in fines from 2015–2024 to be automatically erased

Around €30 million in fines imposed by tax inspectors for the period 2015–2024 have been automatically erased following the implementation of the law on debt forgiveness. The Tax Administration announced that obligations worth €29.9 million have been automatically cancelled, benefiting 16,877 taxpayers.


The fines imposed by inspectors relate to the 2015–2024 period. The Tax Administration stated that 16,877 taxpayers have benefited from the automatic cancellation of €29.9 million in obligations. The authority emphasized that it continues implementing the process in accordance with the law, supporting business formalization and reducing the financial burden on taxpayers.


Earlier, the Tax Administration also announced that so far, obligations worth €332 million have been erased or cancelled for 122,000 taxpayers. A total of 19 Fiscal Peace agreements have been signed for the 2026 tax period. The Tax Administration welcomes all taxpayers who voluntarily formalize their businesses through the Fiscal Peace program.

“The forgiveness process opens a new chapter with taxpayers on the path toward European integration, aiming to improve the business climate,” the Tax Administration stated earlier.


Meanwhile, the process continues for all beneficiaries according to the law. From June 10 to June 30, 2026, the payment phase was also implemented for benefiting from the conditional forgiveness of tax obligations, fines, and late-payment interest, according to Law No. 86/2025.


For the period 2015–2019, taxpayers benefit from a 50% reduction of the principal obligation, as well as the complete cancellation of fines and late-payment interest, if the remaining 50% is paid in a single payment between June 10, 2026, and June 30, 2026.


For the period 2015–2019, taxpayers benefit from a 25% reduction of the principal obligation, along with the full cancellation of fines and late-payment interest, if the remaining 75% is paid between June 10, 2026, and December 31, 2026.


For the period 2020–2024, taxpayers benefit from the complete cancellation of fines and late-payment interest if 100% of the principal obligation is paid between June 10, 2026, and December 31, 2026.
