The Municipality of Amorgos has declared a state of emergency following a series of strong seismic activities that have affected the region, raising concerns about the safety of residents and potential consequences. This decision was made by the Secretary-General of Civil Protection, in accordance with the emergency needs and the management of the consequences of the recent earthquakes.
The seismic activity has caused a series of earthquakes, with more than 15,300 recorded from January 26 to February 10, in the Santorini-Amorgos area, including over 1,200 earthquakes registered on February 10 alone. This high number of tremors has alarmed both authorities and residents of the region, with many people evacuating their homes due to safety concerns. The strongest earthquakes have been felt to the north of Anhydros, causing further distress.
The officials of the Interdisciplinary Committee for Risk and Crisis Management at the National University of Athens announced that seismic activity has caused strong tremors in the region, requiring an immediate response from authorities and emergency services to address the situation. The Municipality of Amorgos has called for assistance and support from the government and regional authorities to address the urgent needs of residents and manage the consequences caused by the earthquakes.
This situation has caused uncertainty and increased tension between citizens and local authorities, who are working to ensure the protection of lives and properties. Despite efforts to ensure a swift response, the challenges of managing the consequences of the earthquakes remain significant for the Santorini and Amorgos area.
