Tirana police have arrested a 46-year-old former soldier suspected of supplying firearms to criminal groups in the capital.
The arrested individual has been identified as Altin Celami, a resident of Tirana. He was stopped on Rruga e Dibrës while driving his yellow taxi, which, according to investigations, was used to evade police checks.
During searches of his vehicle and later his residence, police seized four pistols, live ammunition, cocaine, and various firearm parts, all suspected to be intended for sale to criminal groups.
Sources indicate that Celami had recently been released from prison and was previously arrested in October 2022 for the same criminal offense. He had previously served in the military unit at Pezë Helmës but was expelled following his first arrest.
Investigation materials have been forwarded to the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office to continue legal proceedings against the 46-year-old, who faces charges of illegal possession of weapons, arms trafficking, and drug-related offenses.
