Farmers in the villages of Devoll are going through one of the most difficult seasons in recent years after severe damage caused by early May frosts in the region’s orchards.

Low temperatures have heavily affected fruit production, almost completely destroying apple, cherry, and plum yields. According to farmers, in some areas losses have reached 95–100%, leaving hundreds of families who depend mainly on agriculture without income.

Residents report that newly formed fruits have frozen and are now falling from the trees, meaning that almost no harvest is expected for this year.

Farmers say the situation is extremely serious, as in addition to losing production, they must still continue investing in orchard maintenance. According to them, the trees require ongoing treatments and care, as the lack of agricultural intervention could cause even greater damage and threaten next year’s production.

In many villages of Devoll, fruit growing is the main source of income, and this season’s damage is expected to have a strong impact on household economies and the entire agricultural sector in the area.

Farmers are calling for support and attention from institutions, while warning that the situation is becoming increasingly alarming for the future of agriculture in the region.
