A stunning scientific revelation has emerged: researchers have precisely identified a massive, developing crack deep beneath the Earth’s surface, stretching between the Arabo-African and Eurasian tectonic plates. This geological rupture is linked to the disappearance of a long-lost ocean, the Neotethys Ocean which once separated the ancient supercontinents Gondwana and Laurasia.

Led by geologist Renas Koshnaw from the University of Miami, the team confirmed that the crack is not merely a surface feature but part of a deeper tectonic shift tied to ancient processes.

“It’s like an old wound reopening,” said Koshnaw. The oceanic plate is collapsing into the Earth’s mantle, creating enormous lateral stress along its boundaries.

The fracture begins in southeastern Turkey, extending into northern Iraq and the Zagros mountain range. According to experts, this tectonic activity could significantly increase the frequency and intensity of earthquakes in the region.

“In the coming centuries, we may witness stronger and more frequent earthquakes in this area,” scientists warn.

Even more astonishing, researchers suggest that if the rift continues to expand, it could eventually lead to the formation of a new microplate between Arabia and Asia Minor a development that could permanently alter Earth’s tectonic map.

This discovery highlights the raw power of natural processes and underscores the vital role of science in understanding the future of our ever-changing planet.
