A minor family incident turned into a bloody tragedy in Florida when a 47-year-old man, under the influence of alcohol, killed his wife, shot his 13-year-old daughter in the face, and then took his own life, according to local authorities.

According to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, the 47-year-old Jason Kenney was intoxicated when he got into a heated argument with his wife, Crystal Kenney, after she asked him to turn off the NFL game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Indianapolis Colts, which was being broadcast on Monday Night Football.

The tension was so intense that Crystal Kenney reportedly asked her 12-year-old son to call the police. The child ran in panic to a neighbor’s house, from where he heard several gunshots, reports the New York Post.

When officers arrived at the family’s home, they found the woman dead from a gunshot wound, while her 13-year-old daughter had been shot in the face and shoulder. The minor was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, but she survived and gave a statement to authorities.

“I begged him, ‘Don’t shoot me, don’t shoot me,’ and he shot me anyway,” she reportedly told officers, according to the sheriff.

The family’s 12-year-old boy was not injured, while the couple’s one-year-old daughter was found safe, sleeping in her crib. Jason Kenney was the stepfather of the woman’s two older children.

After the killing, the 47-year-old left the house and called his sister, who lives in New York, telling her that he had “done something very bad” and that they would never speak again.

He then went to his father’s house, where he was found by authorities. As officers tried to convince him to come out of a shed in the yard, the man shot himself and died.

During a search of the family home, officers found a note that Crystal Kenney had written to her husband, urging him to seek help for his addiction problems.

“I’m drinking, I’m using cocaine again. This is not how a family should function. You need God,” the note read.

The children who survived the tragedy have been placed in the care of their grandparents.

“The entire family was destroyed,” Sheriff Grady Judd said, describing a scene that shocked even experienced police officers. “There was a beautiful Christmas tree, with presents underneath it, just like a normal family would have. And yet, everything ended there.”
