Tirana International Airport (TIA), Vodafone Albania, and Airbus have officially presented the implementation of Airbus’s mission-critical communications platform at Tirana International Airport, making it the first airport in the Western Balkans to adopt this advanced technology for airport operations and safety.
The solution is built on Vodafone Albania’s advanced 5G network infrastructure and capabilities, and represents an important step toward the digital transformation of critical infrastructure in Albania, with a focus on improving safety, efficiency, and operational coordination.
The new platform enables secure, real-time communication between airport operational teams, significantly improving the coordination of airport processes. It also enables faster and more accurate responses to emergency situations, as well as more advanced safety management at all levels of operation.
Airbus’s mission-critical technology is widely used in international airports, public safety organizations, and critical infrastructure operators worldwide, and is considered an advanced standard for operational communications where every second is crucial.
According to the involved parties, this initiative goes beyond a standard technological investment. It demonstrates how partnerships between global technology leaders and strategic institutions can accelerate the modernization of national infrastructure and raise operational standards in sectors vital to the economy.
The Chief Operating Officer of Tirana International Airport, Piervittorio Farabbi, said the implementation marks an important step forward for the airport.
“Today Tirana International Airport takes an important step forward with the implementation of Airbus’s mission-critical platform, supported by Vodafone Albania’s advanced 5G connectivity. Together we are building an infrastructure that ensures safer operations, real-time coordination, and supports the long-term competitiveness of Albania,” he said.
On the other hand, Vodafone Albania CEO Balázs Révész emphasized that the project clearly shows the company’s evolving role in developing critical infrastructure.
“This project clearly shows that Vodafone’s role today goes far beyond traditional telecommunications. Through partnerships with global leaders like Airbus and strategic institutions such as Tirana International Airport, we are bringing international expertise, proven technologies, and advanced standards to Albania that support the functioning of critical infrastructure. Our ambition is to be the technology partner that helps build the digital foundations on which the modern economy relies,” he said.
Airbus Southern Europe representative Lionello Ginelli highlighted the importance of integrating advanced technologies into airport operations.
“By combining Airbus’s Agnet mission-critical platform with Vodafone’s premium connectivity, we are delivering a fully integrated, top-level solution designed to ensure reliable communication and performance in critical operational environments,” he said.
The system implemented at TIA is based on Airbus’s Push-to-Talk Mission Critical technology and enables instant, secure, and uninterrupted communication between airport teams. The platform is fully integrated with existing infrastructure and creates a foundation for further developments in automation, operational monitoring, and intelligent process management.
