The AH3N2 influenza virus has undergone a mutation, resulting in higher transmissibility.
The K variant of this virus has caused an increase in hospitalizations in other countries around the world.
In Albania, experts emphasize that there is no reason for panic, as this virus has circulated before, and even though it has changed, it remains within the same family.
Flu viruses always undergo changes, and there is no need for alarm regarding the new K variant, even though it is not included in the 2025–2026 vaccine. The vaccine still helps by boosting individual immunity.
In various countries, the K variant of AH3N2 has increased hospital admissions and interest in vaccination.
