Juvenile crime is increasing: 545 offenders in three months, 160 under the age of 14; repeat offenses remain a concern

According to statistics from the State Police, in just the first three months of this year, 545 minors across the country have been identified as perpetrators of at least one criminal offense. Even more alarming is the fact that 160 of them are under the age of 14, and in some cases, repeat offenders.

The most common offenses committed by minors include theft, distribution of narcotics, and conflicts that have often led to serious consequences. Minors in conflict with the law have also been identified during protests held in recent months, where they were caught throwing pyrotechnic devices or Molotov cocktails at institutions or police officers.

Driving without a license also remains a significant issue among minors.

Based on the Juvenile Criminal Justice Code, the police adopt a careful approach when dealing with minors, avoiding searches without reasonable suspicion. When minors are summoned to police stations, they are treated in separate environments by plainclothes officers, in the presence of a parent and a psychologist.

Even when appearing before the courts, minors are often treated with lenient measures, which in many cases leads to repeat offenses, as rehabilitation is lacking.

In this situation, families and educational institutions play a key role in preventing such crimes.
