The Competition Authority has established a Working Group to monitor the bread market in the city of Korça, following media reports that several bread production and sales companies have announced a price increase from 120 lek to 150 lek, an increase of over 25%.

According to the Authority, on-site inspections are being carried out immediately to verify whether this announcement will be implemented and to assess whether this behavior constitutes a violation of Law No. 9121/2003 “On the Protection of Competition.”

This law prohibits any agreement that hinders, limits, or distorts competition in the market, including setting prices directly or indirectly.

The Authority emphasizes that violating the law constitutes an administrative offense and can be sanctioned with a fine of up to 10% of the previous year’s financial turnover of the companies involved.

The Competition Authority calls on bread trading companies to comply with the law and avoid practices that undermine competition in the market.
