This was just one of the June plenary sessions, when, after the May 11 elections, the return of MPs from the previous legislature was marked by notable lethargy.

The plenary hall was almost empty, with many MPs absent, lackluster debates, and virtually no initiatives from lawmakers. Still, this did not affect their paychecks, which were credited in full to their bank accounts.

The June payroll report, recently published on Parliament’s official website, shows that the post-election inactivity that gripped parliamentary life did not financially penalize the outgoing MPs.

According to the report, only 17 MPs had a single absence during June, resulting in a deduction of 10,000 lekë each from their salaries.

In total, for June, MPs’ salaries amounted to 30,161,365 lekë, around €300,000.

But it wasn’t just salaries. Even in a month with little activity, MPs received around 22 million lekë for fuel, phone bills, rent, and domestic travel allowances. Just for travel related to their roles as lawmakers, Parliament paid MPs over 13 million lekë about €130,000 in June. Those who benefited the most from these trips include Agron Duka, Bujar Çela, Klodiana Spahiu, Lindita Metaliaj, and Vangjel Dule.

For rent, Parliament paid 35,000 lekë each to 21 MPs, including Antoneta Dhima, Pendavinji, Fadil Nasufi, Nusret Avdulla, Saimir Korreshi, and Greta Bardeli.

Meanwhile, the most active in parliamentary committees thus earning the highest financial bonuses for June were Ismet Beqiraj, Etjen Xhafaj, Petro Koçi, and Pranvera Resulaj, each receiving about 20,000 lekë in additional pay.
