Maliq Municipality has achieved another significant success in the field of rural development and climate change adaptation, having been selected as a beneficiary in the cross-border project “AGRI Adapt – Water Resources Management for Climate Change Adaptation and Agricultural Sustainability,” funded by the European Union.
This achievement is the result of the dedication and professionalism of Mr. Alban Myftarago, the Integration Coordinator at Maliq Municipality, who meticulously followed every step of the application and project preparation process, ensuring the municipality’s inclusion in this strategic initiative for the region.
In the project’s first official consortium meeting, held yesterday afternoon in Thessaloniki, Greece, the objectives and concrete implementation steps were presented. The primary goal is to build a cross-border hydrological network and create an open Decision Support System (DSS) for irrigation, which will directly assist in protecting agriculture from droughts and climate impacts. The project includes:
Installation of 10 telemetry stations in pilot areas in Albania and Greece for real-time monitoring of water resources.
Development of an intelligent irrigation management system.
Organization of workshops with farmers to improve agricultural practices.
Design and implementation of a training program including 18 webinars and 6 practical training sessions to enhance the capacities of local actors.
The international project partners are:
The Regional Unit Cooperation Network and Zakynthos Municipality (Greece)
Parga Municipality (Greece)
Souli Municipality (Greece)
Maliq Municipality (Albania)
Irrigation and Drainage Directorate of Fier (Albania)
This project is yet another testimony that Maliq Municipality’s European vision is producing concrete and tangible results for the community. The commitment to sustainable development, agricultural innovation, and environmental protection remains one of the main priorities of this local institution.
