Murder of the officer / Family members demand accountability from Begaj: “You have left the country in the hands of criminals”

Grief-stricken family members of police officer Enea Mekolli, who was killed in the line of duty yesterday, are today mourning the loss of their loved one.

During the funeral homages in Pogradec, President Bajram Begaj was involved in an incident where family members of the victim reportedly confronted him and demanded accountability over the case.

It was the victim’s uncle who addressed Begaj regarding the incident, calling for stronger measures and stating that criminals are taking innocent lives.

“You have left this country in the hands of criminals. Don’t shut the door on us, don’t let criminals go free.

There were three previous attempts to arrest him; you must take measures, they are killing us, be strong, you have left this country in the hands of criminals, criminals are ruling everywhere in Albania.

The police do not dominate, crime dominates. We are sinking. You have brought us to the bottom. There were no protective measures,” the uncle said, while Begaj reportedly did not respond but embraced him.
