A new COVID-19 variant, identified as KP.2, has now become dominant in the United States, according to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This subvariant of the Omicron family is spreading rapidly and has become the primary cause of new infections in several regions around the world.
Health experts warn that this variant has a higher transmission rate, although the symptoms reported so far appear to be similar to those of previous variants. Many European and Asian countries are reporting a significant rise in new cases, raising concerns about a possible new wave during the summer months.
The World Health Organization (WHO) and national health authorities are closely monitoring the situation, while citizens especially those with weakened immune systems or underlying health conditions are urged to remain cautious.
