Veterinary authorities have raised the alarm in the southeastern part of the country following suspicions of a new outbreak of Peste des Petits Ruminants in the area of Ersekë.
Preliminary sources indicate that the suspicions emerged after several livestock animals showed concerning symptoms, prompting veterinary services to intervene immediately to verify the situation.
Biological samples have been sent for laboratory analysis, while authorities are awaiting official confirmation to determine whether this is indeed a new outbreak of the infectious disease.
Peste des Petits Ruminants is considered a highly contagious disease that mainly affects sheep and goats, causing significant economic damage to farmers.
Meanwhile, controls and veterinary monitoring have been intensified in the area where the suspected cases were identified, while farmers have been urged to exercise increased caution and report any suspicious cases to the relevant authorities.
