The number of students suspected of being poisoned after consuming food distributed at the Akademia e Sigurisë has risen to 64. After the initial 60 reported cases, four additional cadets have presented to emergency services with the same symptoms.

Police and the Prosecution Office in Tirana are continuing investigations to clarify the causes of the incident. According to sources, the case file is expected to be merged with the investigation into a similar poisoning episode that occurred in early May.

At the center of the investigation is the company SORI-AL, which supplies food to the Academy through its catering service. Meanwhile, prosecutors’ checks have also extended to the National Food Authority (AKU), to determine whether the institution carried out additional inspections at the company’s premises after it resumed operations at the Academy over the past two months.

This Friday, the administrator of the company, Alma Tafani is expected to be questioned. She has been under investigation at large since the first poisoning case.

The investigative group is also awaiting the results of laboratory analyses of food samples taken by the National Food Authority (AKU). These analyses are expected to help determine the cause of poisoning among the 64 students.

Just one month earlier, 52 students were also poisoned after consuming food supplied by the catering company ‘SORI-AL’. Laboratory tests from that case reportedly found that pasta was contaminated with the bacteria *Escherichia coli* and staphylococcus.

By the end of 2025, the company Sori-Al is reported to have won 75 public tenders, with a total value of 4.2 billion lek.
