Police changes: Competition for the heads of three key departments canceled

The Albanian State Police has canceled the competition procedure for the appointment of directors of three of the institution’s main departments, just a few weeks after the call for applications was announced.

The decision was made public through a notice dated July 28, 2026, which states that the cancellation is related to the amendments approved to Law No. 82/2024 “On the State Police” and the ongoing restructuring process of the institution.

The competition, announced on July 2, 2026, concerned the positions of director of the Department of Criminal Police, the Department of Border and Migration, and the Department of International Relations.

According to the State Police, the legal changes require a reorganization of the institution’s structure, making it necessary to cancel the initiated procedure.

The notice emphasizes that the decision was taken to ensure a fair, transparent process with equal opportunities for all candidates, in accordance with the new organizational structure.

The Police clarified that the competition will remain canceled until the legal changes are fully implemented and the institutional restructuring is completed, after which a new competition procedure is expected to be opened.
