A serious fraud case occurred in Thessaloniki, where a 70-year-old woman fell victim to individuals pretending to be employees of the electricity distribution company, stealing cash and jewelry valued at up to half a million euros.
The incident was reported by the victim to the Pylaia–Chortiatis Police Station, where she stated that unknown individuals contacted her, presenting themselves as DEDDIE (the electricity network operator) staff. They convinced her that, for safety reasons, she needed to leave valuable items outside her home.
According to her testimony, the woman left 450 pounds of gold, representing a significant reserve, as well as jewelry worth over 100,000 euros. The perpetrators took the loot and fled without leaving traces.
Following investigations, the Hellenic Police managed to arrest two suspects. Officers from the Department of Investigation and Criminal Pursuit of Pylaia–Chortiatis, with the assistance of the special unit OPKE, apprehended a 40-year-old couple and a 36-year-old individual.
Meanwhile, a 25-year-old has been identified and is wanted.
According to police sources, all three suspects are of Roma origin.
Investigations continue both to locate and arrest the fourth person, as well as to recover the stolen items, which have not yet been retrieved.
