Powerful earthquake in Taiwan, injuries reported

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter scale struck Taiwan shortly after midnight on Tuesday, causing significant damage to several buildings and injuring at least 27 people, according to local authorities. Six of the injured, including a one-month-old baby, were rescued from a collapsed house in the Nanxi district of Tainan. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported; however, rescue teams continue to work and assess the aftermath of the earthquake. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the city of Dapu, Chiayi County, and was recorded at a depth of 9.7 kilometers, according to official reports.
