Saturday’s match between Skënderbeu and Egnatia, narrowly won by the Korçë side, was officiated by Laver Alla in the VAR room and featured two controversial moments.

In both instances, the main referee initially did not award a penalty, though both decisions were clear penalties without any doubt. VAR was crucial in correcting the referee’s mistakes and ensuring the right calls were made.

16th minute: The Korçë team appealed for a penalty after contact between Xhemajli and Bismark inside the box. The referee initially allowed play to continue but was later called by VAR to review the footage. Upon rewatching, he recognized the contact and awarded a penalty. Alla made an error in the first instance, but VAR intervened to ensure the correct decision was made.

59th minute: A cross into the box from Nikaj struck Alijev’s hand. The Korçë players protested, but Alla once again let the game continue. Later, VAR called him to review the play, and after watching the footage, he pointed to the penalty spot. Once again, the referee’s initial mistake was corrected by VAR.
