Residents in protest tear down barriers after 22 years of blockage

Dozens of residents from Nivica, Shën Vasil, landowners in Kakome, as well as emigrants who came from various cities across the country, protested this Sunday in the Kakome area.

After multiple warnings, the protesters took a strong action by tearing down the fence that for 22 years had kept one of the region’s most important natural assets isolated.

According to the residents, this fence has blocked access to their land for more than two decades, as well as the use of the beach by the local community and visitors.

For years, residents have continuously raised concerns, accusing businessman Luan Leka of blocking access to the beach for oligarchic interests and restricting their property rights.

The protesters have demanded an immediate solution and the restoration of free access to the area, while the situation has led to tensions and strong reactions.
