Road accidents down 6.3% in March, driver behavior remains the main cause

During March 2026, 86.5% of road accidents occurred as a result of driver behavior, according to a publication by AIS.
Road accidents also declined in the third month of the year, with a total of 89 cases recorded. Official data show that the main cause of accidents continues to be driver behavior behind the wheel.
“In March 2026, 89 road accidents were recorded, in which 117 people were affected (killed and injured). During the January–March 2026 period, the number of road accidents decreased by 6.3% compared to the same period a year earlier.
During March 2026, 86.5% of road accidents occurred as a result of driver behavior,” the AIS report states.
The same report highlights that young people bear the highest share of the total number of reported accidents.
Specifically, the 25–34 age group accounts for the highest number of accidents, making up 32.6% of the total recorded cases during this period.
AIS notes that the highest number of road accidents by day of the week was recorded on Thursdays, with 18.0%, while the lowest was on Sundays, with 9.0%.
Meanwhile, the highest number of road accidents occurred during the time interval from 17:00 to 19:00, accounting for 23.6% of the total number of road accidents.
