*Announcement!

The Neurosurgery Service of the University Trauma Hospital

With deep sorrow, we share the news of the passing of Prof. Agim Kolasi.

Prof. Agim was a well-known figure in Albanian medicine. He was one of the founders of Albanian neurosurgery. Born in Kolonjë, which he always kept in his mind and heart, he studied at the Faculty of Medicine in Tirana and in the 1970s completed a specialization in neurosurgery in China. Immediately after returning to Albania, he began applying the knowledge he had gained at the Military Hospital.

In 1972, he established the Neurosurgery Department at the Military Hospital, where many surgical procedures and diagnostic methods were performed for the first time in Albania. Dr. Agim carried out thousands of operations and was also the author of numerous studies that later became a guide for young doctors.

His life was proof that a person’s time is not measured by the years they live, but by the marks they leave in the minds and hearts of others. And he left behind a legacy that will not fade: generations of students who will carry on his spirit, colleagues who will remember his wisdom, and patients who will preserve gratitude for his humane care. He lived and worked according to the ancient principle “Ars longa, vita brevis” – art is long, life is short – knowing that the knowledge he built would live beyond the limits of his time.

For him, the profession was not merely a duty, but a mission: “Salus aegroti suprema lex esto” – the health of the patient should be the supreme law. In every decision, in every piece of advice, he placed the human being at the center, proving that medicine without humanism loses its meaning.

Today, as we bid him farewell into eternity, we know he does not fully depart. Because, as he himself said: “A person lives as long as they are remembered with love and respect.”

May our dear professor rest in peace. The light he ignited within us will continue to shine forever.

From Prof. Assoc. Fatos Olldashi
