Daniel Badislav, a Romanian goalkeeper weighing around 130 kilograms, has become the most talked-about figure in Romanian amateur football. He plays for Ciorogarla FC, a club that once competed in the second division but now finds itself in the fourth division—partly due to his problematic performance.

Initially, Daniel played as a forward, but due to his inability to keep up with the pace of the game and lack of mobility, he was forced to switch to goalkeeper. Unfortunately, even in the goalkeeper role, he has struggled seriously with catching the ball, forcing the coach to set up an extremely defensive formation: seven defenders and three midfielders, with no forwards on the field.

The situation worsened further because of Daniel’s family ties to the club. His mother is one of the main owners and financial backers of Ciorogarla FC, making it nearly impossible for the management to remove him from the team despite the consequences.

This has caused major unrest within the club: four coaches have resigned in protest, another coach passed away from a heart attack, and one player has retired from football permanently. Ironically, Daniel is also the highest-paid player on the team.

The case of Ciorogarla FC is increasingly cited as an example of unfair interference in sports and lack of meritocracy in some smaller European clubs.
