A serious incident occurred yesterday in Kukës, where a student of a 9-year school was injured near his school premises.

According to preliminary information, the incident happened near the building of the former 9-year school “Bajram Curri,” which is currently under reconstruction by a construction company.

The incident took place while the minor was trying to retrieve a ball near the construction site. At that moment, debris was dropped from the third floor of the building, hitting the student and causing injuries that required immediate medical attention. Sources indicate that proper safety measures and full isolation of the construction site were lacking, increasing the risk for passersby and especially for students.

The minor was initially taken to the emergency department of the regional hospital in Kukës, where he received first aid. Due to the severity and nature of his injuries, he was then urgently transferred to the Trauma Hospital in Tirana for more specialized treatment.

Meanwhile, the incident has not been officially reported by the Kukës Police, raising questions about transparency and procedures in such cases.

The Labor Inspectorate intervened immediately, halting work at the site and placing safety barriers due to the lack of technical conditions and protective measures at the construction site.

This incident has highlighted the importance of adhering to safety regulations at construction sites, especially when they are near educational institutions and areas frequented by children.

Authorities are expected to investigate the full circumstances of the incident and determine the relevant responsibilities to prevent similar situations in the future.
