SPOCOC uncovers Ermal Beqiraj’s staggering wealth in France: Million-euro bank accounts, apartments, and a castle

The Special Prosecution Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) has published new details regarding the arrest of businessman Ermal Beqiraj in France, revealing that during the investigation, assets worth millions of euros were identified, which are suspected of having criminal origins.

According to the official statement, Beqiraj is under investigation as part of criminal proceeding no. 20/1 of 2025 for a series of criminal offenses, including unfair competition through violence, unlawful deprivation of liberty, violation of equality in public tenders, structured criminal group, money laundering, and active corruption.

By decision of the Special Court, the security measure of “arrest in prison” was imposed on Ermal Beqiraj and another individual. They were later declared internationally wanted through an Interpol “Red Notice.”

SPAK stated that on June 19, 2026, it requested assistance from French authorities after receiving information that Beqiraj was located in France. Following cooperation between Albanian and French law enforcement structures, his location was confirmed and in-depth financial investigations were launched.

French authorities discovered that Beqiraj owned significant assets in France, including bank accounts containing more than €2 million, two apartments, as well as a castle in the Oise department, valued at around €2.6 million. Other assets were also identified, including vehicles and additional property believed to be linked to criminal activity.

Regarding these assets, SPAK has submitted a request for legal assistance to the French authorities with the aim of seizing them, while financial investigations continue to identify other assets.

Ermal Beqiraj’s arrest was carried out on July 24, 2026, after he entered the restricted airspace above the Penly nuclear power plant in France with a light aircraft and was forced to land at Albert aerodrome. Following his detention, a French court ordered the continuation of his detention for the purpose of extradition to Albania.

Furthermore, at SPAK’s request, French authorities conducted searches at properties owned by Beqiraj, where items considered relevant to the criminal investigation were seized.

Meanwhile, the Special Prosecution Office has officially begun procedures for the extradition of Ermal Beqiraj from France to Albania, while expressing appreciation for the cooperation between French and Albanian authorities in this joint operation.
