Today, St. Prodhomi is celebrated in Voskopoja, at the monastery that bears the name of the saint, protector of roads and travelers.

In Voskopoja, today marks the feast day of St. Prodhomi, which in the Orthodox religious calendar coincides with the saint of the day: the Nativity of John the Baptist.

In the past, the Orthodox religious activity in Voskopoja was centered in the old church, a monastery named after the saint – Prodhomi. The Monastery of St. Prodhomi is the first letter written in the name of a civilization and a culture.

According to the Bible, St. Prodhomi is the protector of roads and travelers. In the Middle Ages, this monastery served as a resting and sheltering place for travelers who set off from the port of Vlora and the south of the country, heading east towards Istanbul.

Caravans loaded with goods would pass through Berat and Skrapar, rest at the Monastery of St. Prodhomi, receive blessings for a "safe journey," and then continue through Korça, Thessaloniki, all the way to Istanbul.

At that time, it was considered the center of the "Eastern world," and it also served as a charitable center for the local population, where pilgrims continuously came to pray to their God, with the hope of healing various illnesses, believing that God would intervene.

The pilgrimage tradition has been preserved and is celebrated every year on June 24th at the Monastery of St. Prodhomi.
