“Strictly prohibited,” minister issues firm order to directors ahead of the start of the new school year

As the new school year approaches, Minister of Education Mirela Kumbaro held a meeting with the heads of 200 schools in Tirana, outlining several priorities for ensuring the smooth running of the educational process.

Safety in school facilities, adherence to professional ethics by teaching staff, and the role of social workers were among the main issues discussed. Another key focus was the ban on the use of mobile phones, a rule the minister said would be enforced more strictly, starting with teachers themselves.

Kumbaro also addressed the Code of Ethics, approved a year ago for teachers, security officers, and psychosocial service staff. According to her, implementing the code is not only about appearance, but especially about the way people communicate within school environments.

The minister also emphasized that the first day of school will take a different approach. For the first time, through the new guidelines for the school year, it will serve as a day of orientation and introduction to the school, teachers, textbooks, and classmates.

As part of the measures to increase safety, smart cameras have also been installed in 20 schools in Tirana and Kamëz.

According to the minister, these devices can automatically identify situations or elements that may pose a risk. The system can detect, among other things, cigarette smoke, objects categorized as dangerous, such as brass knuckles, firearms or knives, as well as the faces of individuals reported as posing a potential risk.
