A 4.3-magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale struck the Eastern Mediterranean region near the coast of Greece this morning. The tremors were recorded at 07:20 a.m., local time.
According to data from seismological institutes, the earthquake had a very shallow depth of just 7.1 kilometers (4.4 miles), which caused it to be felt more intensely in the areas near the epicenter than would be the case with a deeper earthquake of similar magnitude.
Residents of coastal areas reported strong shaking, but so far there are no reports of material damage or injuries.
