During 2025, the Police Station in Pristina recorded 99 cases in which schools reported their students, while in January alone 7 new cases were registered.
Most of the reports involve insults, threats, or possession of cold weapons. The latest case involves a ninth-grade student who was involved in a physical confrontation with a teacher at the “Pavarësia” school.
The Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina launched an investigation into the criminal offense of “Assault” and, as part of the investigation, secured security camera footage showing that the same student was also struck by the school principal on the same day. The prosecution has also opened an investigation against the school principal. Researchers at the Pedagogical Institute say the problem lies not only in students’ behavior, but above all in the lack of functioning support mechanisms.
They emphasize that the education system lacks support services beyond what schools themselves can provide.
