The Tax Administration announces that it has successfully completed the automatic process of unconditional cancellation/write-off of unpaid tax obligations for the categories provided by law, within the framework of Law No. 86/2025, “On the cancellation, discharge and payment of tax obligations to the central and local tax administration and customs liabilities.”
Through this process, 105,409 taxpayers have benefited, while the total value of written-off/cancelled obligations amounts to around €91.6 million, divided into two main categories:
– €70.5 million relates to administrative fines imposed by tax inspectors for unpaid obligations linked to tax periods up to December 31, 2014 and with accounting dates up to 31.12.2024, benefiting 13,667 taxpayers.
– Meanwhile, €21.1 million relates to other administrative fines, including penalties for late submission of declarations, linked to tax periods up to December 31, 2024 and with accounting dates up to 30.06.2026, provided that the relevant declarations have “submitted” status. In this category, 96,302 taxpayers have benefited.
In accordance with the provisions of the law, taxpayers who have been convicted by a final court decision or who are under investigation or trial for criminal offenses in the field of taxation and customs have not benefited from this measure. Likewise, tax liabilities for which there is a final court decision in favor of the Tax Administration have not been included in the write-off/discharge process.
This process represents one of the important steps in the implementation of the measures provided for by Law No. 86/2025, following the completion of the automatic compensation process of credit balances with unpaid tax liabilities.
The Tax Administration remains committed to the full implementation of the measures provided by law, ensuring transparency, fairness, and equal treatment for all taxpayers, the statement concludes.
