The news agency Reuters reports a series of explosions heard over Doha, the capital of Qatar, in the late afternoon hours.

According to a Western diplomat cited by Reuters, there is a credible threat from Iran against the al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar, which serves as one of the largest U.S. military installations in the region.

This base has been in focus following U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities carried out over the weekend. The Wall Street Journal also reports that Iran has positioned missile launchers in the area, potentially aimed at targeting U.S. forces.

This development comes just hours after official warnings from the U.S. and the United Kingdom, advising their citizens in Qatar to take shelter as a precautionary measure.

Authorities have temporarily closed the airspace, describing it as a safety measure to protect citizens and visitors.

In May, President Donald Trump visited the al-Udeid Air Base to strengthen the military alliance with Qatar.
