Wave of frost and snowstorms in the USA, temperatures drop to -40 degrees

A new wave of cold is expected to sweep across large parts of the United States in the coming days, accompanied by cold winds, snow, and frost. The freezing temperatures forecast for Monday in Washington prompted authorities to move the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Trump indoors at the Capitol.

In most parts of the United States, from the Rocky Mountains in Colorado to the northern states, temperatures will begin to drop starting Sunday and continue throughout the next week, reaching as low as -40 degrees Celsius, or even lower, in Dakota and northern Minnesota, according to meteorologist Marc Chenard from the National Weather Service.

In such atmospheric conditions, frostbite can occur if any part of the human body is exposed to these temperatures for even less than 10 minutes. Meteorological institute officials urged residents to wear jackets, hats, and gloves and to spend as little time outdoors as possible.

Authorities anticipate that rain and snow will create transportation problems, particularly in parts of the country that do not typically experience such winter weather.
