Women in Albania live 4 years longer than men

Eurostat reports that women in Albania live an average of 82.5 years, about 4 years longer than men. Life expectancy is highest in the south of the country and lowest in the north.
Life expectancy is higher in southern and central regions, reaching 80.77 years in the south and 80.74 years in the central areas. In contrast, in the north, it is lower at 79.2 years.
Regarding gender differences, Albanian women live on average 82.5 years, while men live 78.6 years. The overall average life expectancy in Albania is 80.5 years, nearly one year below the European average of 81.5 years.
In Europe, life expectancy declined to 80.4 years in 2020 and 80.1 years in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it has since recovered and now exceeds the 2019 level of 81.3 years.
Regionally, four areas recorded life expectancy of 85 years or more: Madrid in Spain (85.7 years), the Italian regions of Trento and Bolzano, and Sweden’s capital, Stockholm (85.0 years).
