1,000 lekë per hour after school: here is who can receive payment from the government’s new program

The government has approved the new organization of the “After School” program, an initiative that will be extended to 500 public nine-year and high schools across the country. The program will take place outside mandatory school hours and aims to help students strengthen their knowledge, as well as develop sports, artistic, cultural, and creative skills.

According to the approved decision, trainers who will be involved in this program will receive a payment of 1,000 lekë for each hour of activity. This payment will be considered compensation for a special educational service and will not be part of teachers’ monthly salaries, nor will it affect their mandatory teaching workload.

Different categories of trainers will be able to apply for the program. Priority will be given to teachers employed in public pre-university education institutions, but applications will also be open to teachers on waiting lists, retired former teachers, graduates in relevant fields, arts professionals, as well as artisans registered with the relevant heritage institutions.

The selection of candidates will be carried out through electronic applications or through local pre-university education offices, depending on the applicant’s category. For teachers included in the “Teachers for Albania” portal, applications will be submitted online.

The “After School” program will include activities related to learning support, knowledge reinforcement, and the development of students’ skills, as well as creative activities such as art, culture, sports, and crafts.

According to the decision, priority in the selection process will be given to teachers who work at the school where the program will be implemented. In cases where there are not enough candidates, other applicants who meet the criteria will be given the opportunity to apply.

The program will be financed by the state budget through funds allocated to local education structures. Educational institutions will be responsible for managing documentation, monitoring student participation, and reporting the results.

With this decision, the government repeals the previous rules of the “After School” program and introduces a new scheme for the organization, selection, and payment of trainers for the 2026–2027 school year.
