The anti-drug unit of Ioannina managed to deliver a major blow to drug import and trafficking networks after a cinematic chase that resulted in the arrest of an Albanian man and the seizure of a massive quantity of 167 kilograms of marijuana.
It all began this morning when police officers from the Crime Investigation and Prosecution Subdirectorate spotted a suspicious vehicle with Ukrainian license plates that appeared to be fake, moving in the Konitsa area toward Kozani.
When officers attempted to signal the driver to stop, he turned into a “rocket,” speeding away at an extremely high speed. In an attempt to escape, the Albanian driver carried out dangerous maneuvers, driving in the opposite direction for a long period and putting passing drivers in immediate danger.
The calmness and professionalism of the police officers led to the vehicle being blocked shortly afterward and the suspect being arrested. The stop took place on a rural road near Papigo, in Zagori.
A search of the vehicle revealed 28 packages containing 167 kilograms and 200 grams of marijuana, placed inside the cabin and trunk.
In addition, authorities discovered that the vehicle had fake license plates, while the Albanian man was staying in Greece illegally.
