The list of reimbursed medicines has been officially updated and has now entered into force in all pharmacies and hospitals across the country, following approval by the Council of Ministers. The new changes bring a significant expansion of medicines included in the reimbursement scheme, benefiting thousands of patients across Albania.
In total, 55 new commercial medicine alternatives have been added, which will be available both in public pharmacies and hospital pharmacies. Specifically, 35 new medicines have been included in the retail pharmacy network for citizens, while 20 others have been added in public hospitals for the treatment of inpatients.
According to sources from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, a significant portion of the new medicines contain active substances that were not previously available in the Albanian pharmaceutical market. This includes 27 medicines with active ingredients that were not previously known in the country, considered an important step in improving medical treatments.
The updated list includes a total of 35 active substances, of which 27 are new medicines and 8 are improved existing ones. The added medicines mainly relate to the treatment of the most common diseases and health conditions with a high impact on public health.
An important place in the new list is occupied by medicines for the treatment of oncological and cardiac diseases. According to health authorities, many of them are innovative drugs also used in European Union countries and are considered important for more modern and effective treatments.
Currently, the reimbursement list in Albania contains a total of 1,356 commercial medicine alternatives, expanding treatment options and reducing costs for patients across many disease categories.
