The leader of Hezbollah, Naim Qassem, congratulated the Palestinians on the Gaza ceasefire agreement, stating in a speech that it demonstrated the “persistence of resistance” against Israel.
The statement was the first public comment from the head of the Iranian-backed Lebanese militant group since Israel and Hamas reached the agreement on Wednesday, A2 CNN reports.
“This agreement, which remained unchanged from what was proposed in May 2024, demonstrates the persistence of the resistance groups, which got what they wanted, while Israel was unable to get what it sought,” he said, according to A2 CNN.
Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire in a parallel conflict to the Gaza war in November.
This ceasefire, mediated by the United States and France, requires Israeli forces to withdraw from southern Lebanon within 60 days and for Hezbollah to remove all its fighters and weapons from the south.
