The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) has, this Thursday (June 4, 2026), indicted former Albanian national football team player Igli Tare.
According to information, Tare has been formally charged with money laundering in connection with the case involving former Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku.
Tare’s summons to SSACOC came shortly after several searches were carried out at the residences of Balluku’s family members and various businessmen, while investigators also conducted inspections in two villas in a residential area in Drimadhes.
SPAK initially issued a first summons for the former footballer, which was returned because he lives abroad and did not receive it. A second summons was then issued, with measures taken to ensure that Tare would be properly notified.
On Thursday, Tare appeared at SSACOC, where he was formally informed of the charges and indicted. Meanwhile, Boldnews had previously reported that, under a 2023 decision by Edi Rama, Igli Tare received a permit for a power generation facility in the city of Fier.
