The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Evis Sala, has resigned from her position.

Sala announced her decision during a government meeting held this Wednesday, bringing an end to her relatively short tenure at the helm of one of the government’s most important ministries.

The reasons behind the minister’s resignation have not yet been officially disclosed. However, when submitting her resignation, she is reportedly said to have stated that she “will pursue her academic career.”

Evis Sala took over as Minister of Health in September 2025, when she joined Prime Minister Edi Rama’s fourth-term cabinet. When introducing her, Rama emphasized Sala’s international professional and academic profile, as she entered government after a long career at renowned medical and academic institutions abroad.

Sala is a radiologist and previously worked at the University of Cambridge, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, and Policlinico Gemelli in Rome.
