In January, teachers across Albania were expected to receive a salary increase, but this did not happen when salaries were paid in the first days of February.

There was not a single cent of the promised increase in teachers’ bank accounts, which had been announced by Prime Minister Edi Rama, and it can now be said that the government misled Albanian teachers at the beginning of 2026.

The expected increase was 3,000 lekë per month for every teacher, as Rama himself had promised, but at least for January this turned out to be a major disappointment.

Sources close to our portal say that even in February (meaning the salary to be received in March) there may again be no increase, but starting from March it is expected that the Council of Ministers’ decision (VKM) announcing the promised raise will reach the country’s Regional Education Directorates (ZVA).

The same sources say that with that decision, expected after about a month, salaries could be increased retroactively from January, meaning teachers would receive all the additional payments together. However, none of this is official yet, since only the issuance of the government decision can confirm the salary increase.

We will have to wait and see what happens next, as the promise was made by Prime Minister Rama and teachers feel disappointed by this situation.
