BREAKING NEWS: NAME / Tragedy in prison: Inmate found lifeless in his cell bed

The General Directorate of Prisons announces:

“At Lezhë Penitentiary Institution, during a shift change, a basic-duty officer noticed that inmate under compulsory medical treatment, Sotir Shabani, lying in his bed, was not responding.

The on-duty doctor was immediately notified and, after examination, confirmed that the patient had passed away.

The deceased, Sotir Shabani, born on 21.12.1975, born and residing in Ballsh, Mallakastër, had been admitted to the institution on 27.11.2021 for the criminal offense of ‘Domestic Violence,’ under a measure of compulsory medical treatment.

The relevant documentation has been prepared and the institution’s management, the specialist of the State Agency for the Supervision of Prison Services (SHKBB), the Lezhë Police Commissariat, and the on-call Prosecutor have been notified for the continuation of legal procedures.

The institution is cooperating with the competent authorities to fully clarify the circumstances of the case.”
