Chemotherapy services change in Korçë, around 300 patients to benefit

The day chemotherapy unit at Korçë Regional Hospital has been renovated and equipped with modern standards, allowing around 300 patients from the county to receive treatment closer to home.

Health Minister Evis Sala said the aim is to decentralize oncology services so that patients no longer need to travel to Tirana for every treatment.

“We cannot speak of a quality healthcare system if a cancer patient has to travel hundreds of kilometers to receive the treatment they need. Our goal is for the service to come closer to the patient, rather than the patient having to travel for the service. Korçë is a concrete step in this direction: better standards, safer conditions, and care closer to citizens,” the minister said.

The renovation of the unit aims to improve conditions and the quality of care for patients undergoing chemotherapy, reducing the need for frequent trips to the capital.

Korçë is part of a broader project to modernize eight other regional chemotherapy centers, as part of the creation of a National Oncology Network.
