New developments have emerged regarding the death of 19-year-old Albanian Myrto in Kefalonia, while one of the arrested suspects, a 26-year-old former weightlifter, appeared in court to ask for forgiveness. According to information, the young man claims he was the one who carried the unconscious girl out of the apartment and that, together with a 23-year-old, they called emergency services. However, investigations by the Greek Police point to a more serious version of events.

Initially, the three arrested individuals were charged with exposure and drug-related offenses, but the charge was later upgraded to intentional homicide by omission, under relevant provisions of the Greek Penal Code. This change gives the case significantly greater legal weight, while the other two defendants are expected to give their testimonies as well. The incident took place in Argostoli, where the 19-year-old was found unconscious in a central square in the early hours of Tuesday morning. She was transported to the island hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. According to the indictment, the three young men, aged 26, 23, and 22, are suspected of being with the victim in a hotel room and failing to provide assistance when she lost consciousness, later abandoning her where she was found.

Security camera footage is considered crucial to the investigation, as it shows the 26-year-old carrying the unconscious girl out of the hotel and leaving her outside. Meanwhile, there are indications that the suspects may have attempted to destroy evidence, including cleaning the room and disposing of the victim’s phone, which was later found abandoned. Preliminary forensic examinations suggest the cause of death is linked to cardiac arrest following pulmonary edema, while toxicology results are expected to shed further light on the circumstances. At the same time, family members and friends said their final farewell to the 19-year-old at the city cathedral, in deep sorrow. Her father, in a heartbreaking statement, spoke about the tragic loss and raised suspicions about the involvement of an organized criminal network, demanding justice and respect for his daughter’s memory.

“It is an organized group, which may have had a leader, a deputy, assistants, actors, I don’t know what exactly. Spare me, don’t allow them to insult my child. Today I have both my daughter’s wedding and her funeral. I dressed her like a bride and went to her and told her: ‘my child, here I am. I had promised to accompany you. Instead of taking you to your boyfriend, I am taking you to Hades. You destroyed me, my daughter!’”

The investigation continues, while authorities are examining all evidence to fully clarify this serious case.
