Dua Lipa criticizes the Rama government: Concerning change to environmental law without public consultation

World-famous Albanian singer Dua Lipa has raised concerns about environmental policies in Albania, criticizing legal changes affecting protected areas.

During a conversation with Albanian writer Lea Ypi on her podcast “Service95 Book Club”, the Albanian-born singer spoke about current developments in the country and the way environmental issues are being managed.

Dua Lipa said that changing environmental laws without a public consultation process is a concerning issue.

“We cannot talk about Albania’s history without talking about Albania today. I find it concerning that the government can change environmental laws without public consultation,” she stated.

Her comments relate to changes in Law 21/2024 regarding construction in protected areas, which have sparked debate over their impact on areas of natural importance, including the Vjosa-Narta lagoon and the Zvërnec area, where tourism developments have been planned.
