Former advisor to President Trump, Steve Bannon, begins serving his prison sentence today

Steve Bannon, one of former President Donald Trump's key allies, will report to prison on Monday to serve a four-month sentence. He was convicted of defying a subpoena to testify before the House committee investigating the attack on the Capitol.

According to a person familiar with the matter, Mr. Bannon is expected to serve his sentence in a low-security federal prison located in Danbury, Connecticut. He is anticipated to remain in prison nearly until Election Day.

On Friday, the Supreme Court rejected Mr. Bannon's request to delay the start of his prison sentence until the conclusion of his appeal process.

Mr. Bannon was one of the key advisors to Mr. Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. He later served as one of his chief advisors in the White House during 2017 but left following a disagreement between them, a relationship that later improved.

Steve Bannon is not the first high-ranking former Trump administration official to go to prison for refusing to cooperate with the House committee.

In 2021, Mr. Trump pardoned Mr. Bannon, who at the time was facing federal charges for allegedly raising funds from the former president's supporters through a fraudulent scheme, promising that the money would be used to build the wall on the border with Mexico.

Mr. Bannon has denied the charges. Meanwhile, he is awaiting trial on the same matter under state-level charges.
