The 98-year-old Italian, Giuseppe Paterno, has been declared the oldest graduate in Italy after successfully completing a master’s degree in history and philosophy.
This marks Paterno’s third academic achievement. He earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Eastern Piedmont two years ago, and this year he completed his master’s degree at the University of Vercelli with excellent grades.
Born in 1927, Paterno decided to return to university classrooms after the loss of his wife, Teresa, three years ago. Instead of isolating himself, he chose to fill his life with knowledge and new challenges.
He is no stranger to higher education: in 1954, at the age of 27, he earned a degree in economics and business sciences from the University of Perugia. Later, in 1990, at the age of 62, he obtained a second degree in sociology from the University of Urbino.
Giuseppe Paterno’s story is an inspiring testament that the love for learning knows no age.
