The Director of Albania's National Emergency Service, Dr. Skënder Brataj, has called on doctors and healthcare professionals to become more active on social media in order to combat misinformation and dangerous advice circulating online.
According to Brataj, social media has become a major source of information for the public, but it is also being used by people without the proper qualifications to spread myths and false health information.
He stressed that doctors should not be active on social media for fame or personal gain, but to share accurate, evidence-based information and help citizens identify trustworthy sources.
Brataj acknowledged that being active on social media often brings criticism and personal attacks, but emphasized that remaining silent is not the solution. According to him, the more healthcare professionals provide accurate information, the less room there will be for misinformation and pseudoscience.
