The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, warned that the country could take drastic measures against one of the world’s most important maritime routes if U.S. pressure on Iranian ports continues.
In a statement published on the platform X, Ghalibaf declared that closing the Strait of Hormuz remains an option if the United States does not lift its blockade on Iran.
According to him, this situation could directly affect international shipping traffic in the region. He also accused U.S. President Donald Trump of making false statements, saying that his rhetoric has brought no results either in the conflict or in negotiations.
“The U.S. president made seven claims within one hour, and all seven were false. With these lies, they did not win the war and certainly will achieve nothing in negotiations,” he said.
Speaking about the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, the Iranian official warned that any continuation of the blockade could lead to new restrictions on ship passage, adding that the route could operate only under conditions set by Iran.
“With the continuation of the blockade, the Strait of Hormuz will not remain open,” he warned, adding that passage could be allowed only through a designated corridor and with approval from Iranian authorities.
Ghalibaf also stressed that such issues cannot be resolved through social media statements, suggesting that tensions between the two countries remain high.
